LAOAG CITY, June 30 (PIA) - The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Ilocos Norte actively partners with the youth development office and organizations in the province to assist and empower the youth sector and their communities as well.
Among the partners of SK are the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office, the Movement Against Plastic Pollution (MAPP), and the Sirib Ilokano Kabataan Association (SIKA).
Federation President Rafael Salvador Chua Medina proudly shared that among their projects during this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is the assistance in providing internet access to students of state colleges and universities.
Free internet access are provided to them in temporary e-hubs where these students can stay for them to send their requirements to their instructors.
"The officers and members shared and there were donations of pocket wifi and prepaid loads for this project, we just really need to help these students especially those who do not have access but needed it most for their school requirements," Medina said during today's episode of Laging Handa Network Briefing.
The SK of Ilocos Norte and the youth development officers are also active in their project "Bes Siakon! At Your Service" (I Got You Friend!), a hotline delivery service in the barangay.
Three assigned youth from each barangay will collect, purchase, and deliver essential goods requested by households who cannot leave their homes.
"This is one important service we can provide to those who were not able to leave their homes during the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic," he said
They are compensated with Php 1,000.00 each for this task.
"Ang kabataan ay hindi lamang pag-asa ng bayan, kailangan tayo ng bayan ngayon, bukas at magpakailanman," Medina said as he inspires his fellow youth. (JCR/AMB/JDS/PIA Ilocos Norte)
