TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 8 (PIA) - - The Department of Health (DOH) region 2 reported 10 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 130, four times higher than during the first and second waves as per latest data.

In the latest situation report of DOH, there were 35 cases recorded from March 7 to April 27. After 41 days, the positive cases shoot up to 95 since June 1, after the laboratory testing center of DOH 2 became operational and the "Balik Probinsiya" program has started.

Of the 10 new confirmed cases, four are from Santiago City, two of which have no travel history and exposure while two are locally stranded individuals.

The six others are from Cagayan province of which two are from Enrile, two from Tuao, one from Amulung, and one from Sanchez Mira. Five of them are locally stranded individuals while one is an Overseas Filipino Worker.

Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay said more than 90 percent of the recent cases are not local transmission as majority of the patients who were tested positive are locally stranded individuals who came from infected areas and the returning overseas Filipinos.

He also said no health worker was recorded infected in the recent cases, majority are asymptomatic, some are mild and no severe nor critical cases.

"It's not yet time to relax. It is important for all concerned agencies and the LGUs to be prepared always, especially in managing the situation. We should help each other to contain the spread of the virus," Magpantay said.

He also reiterated to stay at home if there are no important things to do outside or if there are no important travels.

"We keep on reminding the public that if they need really to go out, they should always wear mask and ensure physical distancing and practice minimum health standards to avoid being infected by the virus," Magpantay added. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
