SAO PAULO -- Brazil on Wednesday said it registered 1,175 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 104,201.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health's daily pandemic report, tests detected 55,155 new cases of infection in the same 24-hour period, taking the total caseload to 3,164,785. (Brazil-COVID-19)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden attended Wednesday a campaign event in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, together with Kamala Harris, his choice of Democratic vice presidential candidate, in what was the duo's first public appearance as running mates.

BAGHDAD -- A roadside bomb explosion destroyed a truck belonging to the U.S.-led coalition forces in Dhi Qar province in southern Iraq, the Iraqi military said Wednesday.

The blast took place in al-Bataha intersection near the provincial capital Nasiriyah, some 370 km south of Baghdad, and resulted in the burning of one of the convoy's trucks, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a brief statement. (Iraq-Bomb-US)

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 17 new coronavirus death cases on Wednesday, bringing the death toll from the virus to 639.

This is the highest daily rise of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in Israel in late February, as the previous record was 15, registered on Aug. 4. (Israel-COVID-19)
