SAO PAULO, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- A first-half goal from Dani Alves gave Sao Paulo a 1-0 home victory over Fortaleza in their Brazilian Serie A clash on Thursday.
The former Sevilla, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain full-back slid a shot past goalkeeper Tiago Volpi after meeting Reinaldo's diagonal pass with a lunging effort at the far post.
The match came four days after Sao Paulo's scheduled season-opener at Goias was postponed because of a coronavirus outbreak in the home team's squad.
Fortaleza are yet to register a point from their first two matches, having suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Athletico Paranaense on Saturday.
In Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Bastos netted two first-half goals to fire Vasco da Gama to 2-0 home win over Sport Recife.
And in Thursday's only other match, Peru captain Paolo Guerrero scored one goal and set up another as International beat Santos 2-0 at home.
Guerrero struck with a 57th-minute header before setting up Edenilson to put the result beyond doubt two minutes from time.
