BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LOS ANGELES -- A new stay-at-home order took effect Monday in Los Angeles as confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the most populous county in the United States exceeded 400,000.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 5,150 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 new deaths in a daily release, bringing the metropolitan area's count to 400,919 cases and death toll to 7,655. Los Angeles county is home 10 million people.

OTTAWA -- The Canadian government unveiled a new financial program worth billions of Canadian dollars Monday afternoon to boost the Canadian economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Titled "Supporting Canadians and Fighting COVID-19," the 237-page fiscal update offers a revised look at the Canadian economy and the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 recession on Canada's economic outlook.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia registered 10 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 801, the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Tuesday.

The latest confirmed cases were locally transmitted, said the NCCD in a statement. A total of 369 such cases have been reported so far across the country.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported three new cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation on Tuesday, with no new community cases.

One person arrived on Nov. 23 from Germany via Singapore and tested positive at routine day 3 testing. Further testing indicates that this case is historical but has not been reported overseas so it is included in New Zealand's totals, according to the Ministry of Health.

CHONGQING -- All of the nucleic acid test results were negative for contacts of the traveler from southwest China's Chongqing, who was initially diagnosed as an asymptomatic COVID-19 case upon arriving in the Republic of Korea, the health authorities of Chongqing said Monday.

The city has traced over 8,000 people who had contact with the traveler or with his close contacts, all of whom have tested negative in nucleic acid screenings, said the headquarters of COVID-19 prevention and control in Chongqing's high-tech industrial development zone.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil's state hardest hit by COVID-19, Sao Paulo, reimposed some pandemic lockdown measures on Monday to halt the resurging infection and hospitalization rates.

The move is aimed at improving "control of the pandemic," Sao Paulo State Governor Joao Doria said in his announcement.
