WASHINGTON -- U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said he will resign on Jan. 20 and condemned the violence in the storming of U.S. Capitol in his formal letter of resignation.

COPENHAGEN -- An adverse reaction to the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine may be responsible for as many as 23 reported deaths among frail and elderly patients in nursing homes in Norway, said a press release from the Norwegian Medicines Agency (NoMA) on Friday.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump will leave Washington, D.C. Wednesday morning shortly before President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, with a grandeur ceremony being planned for his departure, U.S. media reported Friday.

The Associated Press cited people familiar with the plan as saying the farewell ceremony, to be held in Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, will probably feature the reception Trump used to get as president during state visits abroad, "complete with a red carpet, color guard, military band and even a 21-gun salute." RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil recorded more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths for a fourth consecutive day, bringing the national toll to 208,246, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, 1,151 deaths were reported, and 69,198 new cases were registered, also the fourth day in a row with over 60,000 infections, raising the total caseload to 8,393,492, said the ministry. ( Brazil-COVID-19)
